Kailee and Anika made little cards and pictures for the new baby. They covered them in seran wrap. Not exactly sure why, but maybe they thought the baby would spit on them?

Kailee made a 100th day hat using 100 flowers on Dan's work hat. Don't think Dan will be wearing this one again, but Grandpa was a good sport!

Dylan was a little puzzled as to what was happening yesterday. It has been a very LONG time since we've had rain. He actually was feeling the cement then holding his hands in the air.

My dad came last week and will be out here for a few weeks. We have enjoyed having him around! We look forward to my mom joining us the beginning of February, hopefully about the time the baby comes.

It was great to all be together for a fun-filled week. What a blessing that we stayed healthy and had great weather too!

Iowa Christmas Vacation

The Iowa fun has begun! We had an eventful time flying here (mechanical problems at LAX, arriving at 4:30am), but the pain was well worth it! It is wonderful to be with family again.

We had family pictures taken Monday morning, hence the coordinating colors. We had fun opening gifts and celebrating Christmas together.

On Tuesday we made graham cracker houses. Grandma always supplies PLENTY of candy to decorate them with.

The roaming helicopter made for hours of entertainment for the kids and BIG kids.

Ted won the creativity award with his coo-coo clock.

Yesterday we met our good friends, Jon and Jennifer Bentz, in Sioux Falls. We had a great few hours together drinking coffee and having lunch.

Family, Friends, and other Fun!

Yesterday we headed up to Turlock to visit Kendal (my brother), Jeanette and kids. They were by Jeanette's family for Christmas, but we got to enjoy being with them for a few hours.
Dylan and Bryce liked being outside and watching the dog.

The girls played Polly Pockets which Kailee and Anika packed along.

We ate pizza together then went our separate ways.

Dylan and Devan have a special bond. Dylan, just like last summer, thought Devan was so hilarious and would just giggle over anything Devan did. It really was cute to watch.

So glad we could be together!

Last Monday we went to a MOPS Christmas party. Kailee went along too because she had a fog delay at school that morning. They decorating cookies and took part in a short Christmas play.

We also opened gifts from Grandpa and Grandma Walhof and from our friends, the Bentz'. These have been keeping them very entertained.

We visited Kailee's class yesterday during their Christmas party. The room mothers had organized outside games. It was a great idea to get some of that energy out!

We had a great evening with friends at Kevin and Sharon Fikkert's house last night. We did a small gift exchange with the kids and a white elephant exchange with the adults. There were some interesting items given which made for great laughs.

We played a few "Minute to Win it" games.

The "Sliding Oreo" was tricky! We were supposed to move it from our foreheads to our mouths without using our hands.

Kevin and Dan were successful.

Anika had to try every game as well.

Anika and Allison helped me make 24 goody boxes to give out to our neighbors and friends at MOPS.

We had our own little family Christmas party on Friday night. The kids were so excited to open their presents. It made for a very quiet Saturday since they were entertained all day with their new gifts!

Dylan made his own "stepping stool" and was very excited about his new riding toy.

Kailee and Anika took part in our church's Christmas program last night. It was very cute. The songs were fun to hear, and Kailee did a great job with her short memory verse she had to recite.

Moon dough activity - At one point during this afternoon I counted 11 kids at my house all at the same time. Surprisingly it really wasn't that chaotic.

Dan took the kids to a close dairy on Saturday while I was at a conference. They loved it, of course. Dylan tries very hard to get into Dan's truck whenever he is home, in hopes of finding more cows.

Thanksgiving 2011

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends yesterday! The food was amazing and we had a lot of the day just to hang out and chat. A huge thanks goes out to Jim and Starlyn Fikkert for inviting us all over!

Kailee and Anika lived by the pool and hot tub the whole afternoon. They especially loved the accessible TV in the hot tub. Starlyn spoiled them by bringing out snacks and drinks.

Fire, Fire!

Last Friday we visited our local fire station with our MOPS group. Dylan was impressed with the tall ladder and the guy who actually climbed out to the end.

Anika's favorite part was controlling the fire hose.

It is finally feeling like fall here. Dan cut some wood this week for our fireplace. Kailee couldn't wait to get warm after her shower, just like she did last year. The only difference is her little shadow next to her.

Dan and I went out for dinner and to the Tulare County Symphony last night. Creme De Paris was the symphony theme, playing four French composers' pieces. It all was wonderful and the highlight was the featured violin soloist, Danielle Belen.

Miss Author, craft, and other excitement

Kailee had dress-up day at school last Friday. They were supposed to dress up like a community helper. She was an author, which really is her desired occupation right now. She is writing and making books at 6:30 in the morning, after school, and into the evening. Yes, she does do other things, but she definitely LOVES drawing and writing.

This was our MOPS craft last Thursday. The black chalkboard is fun to fill with different sayings each day.

Our full house over the weekend! We had Emily and Megan Fikkert stay with us while Kevin and Sharon went to San Diego. The girls were great and it really wasn't that different adding the 2 into our family. We really enjoyed having them here.

Our sidewalks were filled with drawings last Saturday. Then, much to the girls' dismay, it rained Sunday morning and they all disappeared.

Dylan wasn't so much into drawing, but he definitely creates his own fun. He also is thrilled to run away from me just so I will chase him.

I have had a great couple of days celebrating my birthday! I do FEEL another year older, but I will blame that all on pregnancy. On Tuesday night, Sharon had a few of us over for dinner. It was wonderful to hang out and just talk, without being interrupted by kids. We could also talk pregnancy, since we are all due within the next couple of months. (Alicia - Dec., me - Feb., Sharon - Mar., and Andrea in April.) Loved hanging out with these great friends!

Fun with friends

We had a fun morning with Megan and Emily at our house yesterday. They played very nicely and we look forward to having them next weekend too!

Kailee and Anika's caterpillar village. They had about 7 caterpillars, but soon found out that many of them were not pretending to sleep.

This Saturday morning we met our friends, the Heeringas, at their campsite and brought breakfast. It was very fun to "hang out" literally! Nathan made this fun loft to play and sleep on.

Dylan loved playing in the dirt, exploring, and feeding the dog his bottle.

Anika picked huge ditch flowers with Andrea.

Kailee brought a basket of books along, which she shared with all the girls.

Hot coffee, pancakes, eggs and bacon - and great conversation too. What a refreshing morning!

Week adventures

We had such a wonderful time with Grandma Altena. Unfortunately, she had to fly out Monday morning. We look forward to seeing her again at Christmas!

Kailee decided that she wanted to "look" like her teacher one school day. She wanted to get dressed up and curl her hair just like Mrs. Bosma. She came home really bummed that we parted her hair on the wrong side. Can't say she doesn't ADORE her teacher!

This is a little out of focus due to my young photographer, but that's probably better. Six months along and still feeling good. Do I really have time to ponder that though?

I've been playing piano a little bit more lately, hence the lid is open. It beckons kids to play quite often then too.

Taking 3 kids mini-golfing is definitely an adventure! It only took one hole to realize that a score card wasn't needed, and clubs were optional too. All three had a great time. Dan and I were surprised that Kailee was the most excited. She was thrilled to pass each "level" (hole) and go on to the next one. (Can you tell she does too many computer/Wii games?)

We had a very difficult time getting Dylan off of this game. He claimed it and was seen pushing his sisters away. They were not even able to touch the steering wheel. (You also might notice Flat Stanley by the screen. He is visiting from Rock Valley, Iowa from cousin Allison Walhof.)

This afternoon we went to a BBQ in Clovis supporting the CA assembly member, Linda Halderman. Dan had connections through the California Veterinary Medical Association. It was very well organized. We had great food, beautiful weather, and activities for the kids.

We enjoyed Hillcrest Pumpkin Patch this past Saturday with Grandma. It was a beautiful day for picking out a few pumpkins to take home and riding the train. Dylan loved to watch the train, but was not sure about riding on it. Dan thinks he better "man-up" pretty quick.

It was wonderful that Grandma Altena could fly out for Kailee's Grandparent's Day this last Friday. It was an eventful day with the Fall Festival taking place in the afternoon. Of course, it was plenty hot outside (just like other years!)

We had a MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers) gathering at the pumpkin patch this morning. It was a beautiful morning which even included wearing sweatshirts. (We are excited about the cooler temps!)

I (Dan) took the kids to the park so Rachelle could get some stuff done. It was handicap friendly with ramps and that worked well with Dylan. We had some weather with clouds. It's been months since we have had cooler temps (80's) and clouds. We then got some ice cream from McDonald's and did more climbing on their McDonald's play land.

Little baby was quite shy at our 20 week appointment yesterday. He or she (no, we don't know either!) liked to turn away from us when we got close. (You can see the head resting on an arm in the picture above.) Baby looks healthy and all the measurements were very average for it's due date - February 9. What a blessing to have everything looking great right now. We surely don't take that for granted!

I feel great at this point - half way there already! I am ready for some nice cooler weather though. . . enough of 99 degrees!

The girls thought this was a "safe zone" but nothing seems safe anymore.

Lucky Ken! Kailee enjoys taking pictures of all her toys. She then wants me to print them out so she can plaster them all over her bunk bed. The printing has not happened. Maybe she can pick 5 out of the 200 she takes.

Random happenings

All three kids loved the splash park yesterday. It was a beautiful afternoon/evening to be outside.

I taught preschool this past Tuesday. It was a lot of fun. All three girls, Anika, Brooklyn, and Elise, have so much "sit" in them! I was amazed how they wanted to take their time on ALL their papers. We might need to add an extra hour just to get everything accomplished.

Dylan has now moved to sitting with us at the table because he keeps escaping from his high chair. (I threw the straps away earlier because I never used them with the girls.) Now I have to use his portable chair because then he can't get out.

How many Direct TV guys are needed to install cable these days?????? Seriously!

Good reading - highly recommend both books. Very eye opening to the atrocities of war but intriguing as well.

Brooklyn, Anika, and Elise

Anika had her first day of preschool on Tuesday. Three of us moms will swap every Tuesday, each taking our turn at teaching. My friend, Betsy, took the first day and the girls loved it! Anika was so excited to finally use her new supplies and wear her new Twinkle Toe shoes. She worked on her "homework" when she came home, practicing her A's and showing me all her papers.

It's so convenient that we can walk over to Betsy's house, since she lives in our same neighborhood.

On Labor Day we went to our friends, the Kings. The kids loved swimming and playing outside.

Jeremy and Rebekah's Wedding

Our friends, Jeremy Lyzenga and Rebekah Tazelaar, were married this past Saturday up in Three Rivers. It was a beautiful setting for their special day. Jeremy is the Worship and Music Director at our church and Bekah is a 4th grade teacher at CVC. They grew up only about 40 minutes from each other in Indiana/Illinois but came to CA to meet each other.

It was a little warm, no a hot 99 degrees, when the wedding began, but eventually turned out to be a nice evening.

I threw up some photos of this week's health testing at Sam Knevelbaard's dairy which rescently sold to Jay teVelde. The hiefers were sold and need to be health certified before entering other states and countries. Roughly 2200 animals needed to be tested. We had 10 vets for two days to inject T.B. tests and bleed all of them quickly to speed shipment.

Oak Ave. Ice Cream Social

Last night we hosted an ice cream social in our front yard. We invited all those that live on Oak Ave. in our neighborhood. We estimate that about 35 people came over, which we were excited about. It was nice to meet a few new people and visit with those that we do know.

The highlight of the night was when our local fire department showed up. I invited them to join us, and we were thrilled that they did! All 3 firemen were great with kids, showing them their gear and tools, and allowing kids to take turns sitting in the truck.

Ice cream, toppings of all assortments, root beer, fire truck, good company = great evening!

School Begins!

Kailee was a little anxious this morning getting ready for school. She was very excited, but couldn't eat much of her cereal. I reassured her that her new teacher was probably more nervous with 25 little students walking through her door.
I didn't think it was ironic that my devotions included Joshua 1:9 which says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." I read this with Kailee and said a little prayer for her day.

Anika would have preferred that I leave her with Kailee in the classroom. She asked if the teacher had an extra rainbow for her to color. Next year, Anika, will come soon enough!

The public schools begin tomorrow, so needless to say, we had lots of activity yet at our house. It will be a lot quieter when all the neighborhood kids are gone.

Fun things this past week

We had a wonderful, but way too short, time with my brother Kendal, Jeanette and kids last Monday. They stopped by on their way back from the coast after being with Jeanette's family. It was great to have them over for a little while!

We had a great swimming play date with Alicia Vander Tuig and kids on Wednesday. The weather was plenty warm and the water felt wonderful.

Today is Dan's birthday! Last night we celebrated and the girls both made "books." They stayed very busy coloring multiple pages for him. Happy Birthday DAN! We love you!

Dan attended a Pfizer conference this past Friday and Saturday near Pismo. It was a beautiful location so our whole family went along. It was a lot of work to go for one night, but relief from the heat was worth it. In fact, it was only around 69 degrees as the high, and we were quite cold!

The sun felt great. Don't worry, Dylan did not go naked the whole time, he just was washed off from being dirty at the beach.

Our hotel was very kid-friendly. We had plenty of activities to do, good food, just not enough sleep from Dylan. Maybe next time.

Zoo and Camping

Last Thursday we went to the zoo with our friends, Sharon, Emily and Megan. We were celebrating Emily's 3rd birthday and we had a great HOT day with the animals. The kids loved it and lasted longer than Sharon and I anticipated. It was surprising to me that Kailee and Anika's favorite animals were the tarantula, snakes, and stingrays. I still think the giraffes and elephants are quite fascinating.

Last weekend we went camping with a few other couples - 12 adults, 18 kids. We had a great time, the weather was wonderfully cool, and the camper we borrowed was perfect. The space, fridge, and beds were great, but the shower was the best!

We had a very special visit to Mrs. Braaksma one morning. She lives in the retirement home about 2 blocks from my parents. She made this blanket about 13 years ago. My mom bought it for me to take to college. I didn't use it very much, but Kailee claimed it when she was about 2. She has slept, traveled, cried, pouted, dressed-up in, and made forts with this blanket. She will have a very difficult time ever parting with it. It is now showing this "love" and has needed a few repairs. Thanks, mom, for mending it!


One Saturday evening Kendal, Jeanette, Dan and I had a night out with NO kids. We went to Big Sky for dinner then later attended "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat" play in West Yellowstone. I didn't get a good picture, but I did get this one of Dan eating his candy that he just bought. It was such a fun night with my husband, brother, and sister-n-law. Thanks mom and dad for watching our kids!!!

My dad brought us to the airport in Bozeman. (Only 10 minutes away - - - so nice!)

We visited Lewis and Clark Caverns, a short distance from my parents. The girls thought they might find jewels, like the dwarfs in Snow White, but were a little disappointed. They definitely were amazed at God's creations under ground though!

We visited with our great friends, Ron and Anne Kingma, for Dylan's birthday. It was fun to see them and their two adorable little girls.

Montana vacation Part one

Dan hiked to Lava Lake this morning with my brother, Kendal, and nephew, Devan. It was a brisk 39 degree morning. He didn't take many pictures; at least this one on his phone.

Dylan's cake we made yesterday. Kailee and Anika were great helpers (most the time.)

July 4: we went to Hyalite and hiked Palisade Falls. Everyone enjoyed it except Kailee who learned a good lesson on rock climbing.

It was great to spend time with my brother, Kris, and his wife, Kim. We haven't been together for over 2 years. They are moving from Vancouver to Grand Rapids this summer where Kim will attend med school at Michigan State and Kris will go to Calvin Sem. We can't wait to visit them there!

There was a very contagious disease at cousin Natalie's house!

Dylan loves Grandma's toys. He is walking a lot more now. He still doesn't have it completely mastered, but he's a lot closer!

It was a family event making Dylan's birthday cake.

We celebrated Dylan's birthday last night with friends and family, even though is real birthday is actually tomorrow. Hard to believe he's already one!

Dan tried working in the kitchen. Dylan always has to be right beside him "helping." Just like his dad (and grandpas and so forth) Dylan loves power tools. He goes right for these types of things in the garage.

Anika helped me make blueberry and apricot jam. They both turned out, but our favorite is still strawberry.

Tonight we went to a Rawhide baseball game here in Visalia. Many friends were there from Dan's work and from our church. We had a really good time even though the Visalia team lost. The fireworks were fun at the end too!

Last night we went to Clay Cafe in downtown Visalia and had a wonderful evening of painting with our kids. Even Dylan took part, as seen in these pictures, by putting his hand-print on a plate. The girls each painted an item. Kailee chose a castle and Anika picked Ariel. With a little help from Grandpa and Dad they turned out really well. I worked on the hand-print plate by decorating the outside. We can't wait to give it to Grandpa and Grandma as a special memory we had with them!

We visited Bravo Farms in Traver on Thursday. We planned on picking cherries, but (to Kailee's delight) we had to settle for eating ice cream instead. Maybe another time the cherries will be available!

Yesterday morning we went out near Porterville with Grandma Altena and picked buckets of blueberries. It was a fun experience for us all. Now we have fresh blueberry pie, blueberry coffee cake, and lots of frozen berries for future use.

Dylan loved the berries too. As you can see. . .

Grandpa Altena arrived today around noon. No rest for the weary around here! Grandpa played games all afternoon.

Last night Kailee and Anika had a short dance recital. They performed one song using their ballet skills and another showing their tap routine. They did a good job, and it was great that grandma saw the performance as well!

We celebrated by eating ice cream afterwards.

Kailee was not impressed with my ice cream.

Dan and I celebrated our 11th anniversary on Friday, June 10. A wonderful friend offered to take our kids so that we could enjoy an evening out together. We would have rather gone on a Caribbean cruise or something similar but maybe next year.

Yes, we were feeling a little "old." Thought I better make one a black and white.

San Diego with Grandpa and Grandma

This past Thursday my parents flew in from Montana and on Friday we went to San Diego. We went to attend the wedding of my cousin, Jennifer Smit, to Justin Nemeth. It was a beautiful wedding and great city to visit too! We could have stayed for many more days. (Unfortunately my camera decided not to keep a lot of the wedding pictures. I will have to see what my parents have. Bummer!)

We made time to visit Coronado Island beach. It was so fun to cross the long bridge and then enjoy the beautiful beach. Dan was looking for Navy Seals in training, but only found many cool aircraft flying close overhead.

We are enjoying doing activities likes puzzles, bike rides, books, and crafts with my parents here.

We went out to eat Friday night, Kailee's birthday, and the waiter brought out this HUGE sundae for her. Needless to say we all shared it.

Kailee really would prefer McDonald's ice cream over anything else.

We walked on the piers just a few blocks from our hotel. My dad and Dan explored the huge ship, the USS Midway, docked behind Kailee and Anika.

We celebrated Kailee's 6th birthday this past Wednesday, June 1, but her real day is Friday, June 3. She picked a few school friends to have over for crafts, games, and playtime. I was a little concerned that 6 hours of partying might take forever, but it flew by. What a great group!

"Mom, can you please do a cake like this?" Kailee asked as she showed me her drawing. (Yikes! The pressure they put on me!)

Well, this is what I came up with. . . 4 layers. Close! I kept reminding her that this cake looks A LOT like a wedding cake. But that's what she wanted. Okay!

My mom predicted this cake building event: 2 girls wanting to help with every step and one boy hanging on my legs. She was exactly correct.

Kailee wanted to do a few crafts with her friends. We made suncatchers, necklaces, colored sand bottles and sand pictures.

Balloons are sometimes the best part of a party!

Summer!

This is what happened around our house this week.
We bought the annual small pool. (We are noticing either the kids are growing quickly or the pools are shrinking.)

Dylan thinks he's big stuff to watch Baby Einsteins in his own chair.

Megan and Emily came for a tea party and lunch. Sharon and I even had time to do a craft!

Jake Kamper came to play with Dylan and they both loved the pool too.

Summer begins! Hard to believe that Kailee completed Kindergarten already. The year went so quickly. She was very sad to leave Mrs. Ritzema's room, but is already asking who her teacher will be for next year as she will be a BIG first grader. :) We have a few fun visits from grandparents planned and a trip to Montana. I know this summer will fly by way too quickly.

Happy Mother's Day, especially to my own wonderful mom and mother-in-law! We are so blessed to have you both in our lives.
We've had an eventful week this week, especially with school activities. Kailee's kindergarten class gave a short program called a Zoofari on Wednesday. They sang a few animal songs as a group, then individually gave short oral reports on a specific zoo animal back in their classroom. It was very cute and there were many creative animal models from parents. . . I mean, kids!

Friday we went to the zoo with Kailee's 75 classmates. Many other schools thought that was a great day also! It was busy and only 95 degrees, but we had a good time. All 3 of my kids loved it.

Royal Wedding and Pool

Kailee and Anika watched about 20 minutes of the Royal Wedding and then set up their own Little People wedding. They had a prince and princess in their coach with Belle driving the horses.
The girls set up this little "pool" in our front lawn. (It's really just the lid to a sandbox that hasn't held sand for many years.) Dylan liked his first outdoor swim! His diaper got so heavy that it prevented him from standing. That was a lot safer!

What a blessed Sunday to celebrate our risen Savior! We had wonderful worship service at 10:30 then went over to our friends, the Kings. Tanya is so creative; she made these cute little bunny cakes for dessert. The kids thought they were so cool too, but really didn't eat a lot because they had too much candy beforehand.

Kailee and Anika were counting down the days until they got to wear their flower girl dresses again. Glad I can get a little more use out of them before they are too small!

Spring Break

Since cousins, Caleb and Reagan , were around this week we had to have a little Easter egg hunt. Kailee prepared inside while I hid the eggs outside.

We took Caleb and Reagan to Build-A-Bear where Caleb picked out "Bear" and Reagan chose "Princess."

Can't beat the ice cream from Bravo Farms in Traver! I think Caleb lived on granola bars, Rice Krispies, and ice cream while he was here.
Caleb joined the girls for their ballet/tap class on Tuesday. He didn't dance but he volunteered to have all 20 girls leap over him, one at a time. What a good sport!

Wednesday we made our way down to LA and stayed in a hotel so that Thursday we could do our big Disneyland day. The kids loved watching the huge fish swimming in our hotel.

My girls, of course, had to get dressed up to see the princesses. They both picked dresses that were very loved at our house. I was a tad embarrassed, but refused to buy them new dresses just for Disneyland. Caleb didn't want to be left out either.

Dan wanted the highest score on this ride. Some adults never do grow up. . .

We had happy kids even to the bitter end of our day. What a wonderful time with Ted, Jackie and kids. We are so glad they could come out for this very fun week together!

We are having so much fun with Ted and Jackie, Caleb and Reagan. They arrived last Friday from Iowa and are here for a week. The kids go from one fun thing to the next and we, parents, just try to keep up with them. Play hard = sleep hard. Works for us!

Last evening we went to the park and grilled with a few friends. It was such a nice evening.

Santa Cruz Half Marathon

Before our big race: Kristi and Sharon Fikkert; my training friends. We motivated each other by a Facebook-type website called Dailymile which kept track of our mileage. We really only ran together one time before today. For all 3 of us having babies within the last year, I think we did a fabulous job!
A few "before race" jitters. Plus it was kind of cold! There were a total of 2,917 participants in this half marathon.

We had great encouragement along the way. Just what we needed at mile 8 and 11.

Right after the race. I think we were both pleased with how we did. Sharon did beat me to the finish line by 1 min. and 40 seconds, but maybe I'll get her next time. :) (Probably not!) We both were glad to be under the 2 hour time. We both were in the top 24th percentile for finishers both male and female.

Of course our families had a lot of fun on the beach as well.

Saturday was quite windy when we arrived. But the weather this morning was PERFECT for running. God really provided wonderful weather conditions.

Last night Anika decided she could ride Kailee's bike, without training wheels. She shocked all of us by taking off and riding up and down our street without any help. We had never even attempted this with her, much less even mentioned it. What she won't do to keep up with her older sister!

Anika turned 4 today! What a blessing she is. She continues to show us her WHOLE spectrum of emotions. Anika can show the most love, hugging and kissing one minute, then go to glaring in the next. She really has grown up a lot this year and we continue to see her love for the Lord grow also. I have enjoyed our time together when Kailee is off at school. She is a joy, coming up with different thought processes than expected. She definitely keeps me on my toes, remembering minute details (usually winning at the Memory game.) She loves playing with barbies, playing ponies and computer games, but she especially loves being our helper and talking the whole time. She makes us smile. Love you, Anika!

I had another cake planned for her but she wanted this one. She found a You Tube video on how to make it. She handed it to me on our Ipad and said, "Mom, please make this for my birthday." Glad it was an easy one!

Always fun to receive cards and packages in the mail. Thanks everyone!!!

Glimpses of the process:

Dan did all the tile removal. It was a ton of work, but I think he had a little fun doing it. He also helped with some of the plumbing. I now have hot water immediately and purified water on tap. Very nice! The only thing I can take credit for is painting the ceiling and finding new hinges. The majority of the work was done by Bothof Construction. We are so pleased and highly recommend them.

Our cabinets went from faux cherry (oak underneath) to black. We love how they turned out! It was definitely the cheaper route to go and we are so happy with the outcome.

I have 2 kids lately that just love to be awake around 6 am. I am fine with them being awake, but I'm not fine with myself being awake. Kailee is usually very good about doing something quietly. She makes many books in the early hours of the morning. Dylan is a bit needier. The last few mornings Kailee has crawled into his crib and has played with him. (She took the first 3 pictures.) I hear their "conversation" and just have to laugh as I lay in bed and wake up. What a fun way to start my day.

We did a lot of work yesterday getting it ready for the painters to come in tomorrow. Dan worked hard taking out all the tile but would have enjoyed it a lot more doing it WITH someone. I took the kids to McDonald's during this noisy time because Dylan hated it.

We are now eating in our front room on a card table because all our food is on our dining room table. The girls think it's great because all our food is visible. Kailee said, "It's like having an indoor picnic!" This could be quite the adventure this week with only a microwave. I will pray for lots of patience!

I'm posting a lot of pictures of Dylan. . . again. He is changing way too fast for my liking. I'm just trying to take many pictures of him so that I can hang on to each stage.
This week he has decided that he hates being on his back for diaper changes. I remember my sister-in-law, Jeanette, saying that discipline begins on the changing table.
He is also always on the move now. He is not doing an actual crawl yet, but he gets where he wants to with his army crawl and lunge. He now pushes up with his arms and balances on his toes, butt in the air. It really looks quite difficult to do! He is one busy little man.

The exploration has begun. . . if it's within reach, watch out!

I have never given my babies a bath in the kitchen sink but now I found it to be quite handy. Kailee or Anika is usually taking a bath about the same time and this makes the process go a little quicker.
Dylan loves to be where a sister is playing.

One priority in our house is to always have new books to read. We visit the public library quite frequently. Kailee is beginning to read, making it very fun to choose books that she can read to her siblings.
Anika's selection of books is a little broader than Kailee's. She usually picks books about firetrucks, Sponge Bob, or My Little Ponies.

Dylan loves chewing on the library books. That is why we stick his pacifier in.

We all attended a birthday party for our friend, Reagan King, last Friday evening. Tanya had a fun Dora theme which even included Swiper stealing the cake! They found clues around the house and eventually found the pretty cake.

Weekend

We had a very foggy weekend. Kailee had a late start at school last Friday and today. Tomorrow could be more of the same. I really don't mind it, but I also don't have to drive anywhere.

Yesterday our church hosted a men's choir from Azusa Pacific. They were wonderful! They sang 2 songs in the morning services then gave a concert/worship service at 5:00. Our worship and music committee, of which I am a part of, served them noon dinner. What a polite group of guys. It truly was a pleasure having them!

Dairy with Dad

Dylan now thinks he's quite big sitting all by himself. He does quite well with only an occasional falling over. I'm just hoping it alleviates some of his spitting! I am very sick of it.

Monday morning we found Dan amongst the cows. I am amazed at how clean he stays all day long after looking at his messy environment.

Anika, being true to her nature, showed no fear being around the calves. She wanted to feed them and coat them with bedding.

Kailee was much more apprehensive and was quite concerned about the dying cow to my right.

Anika loved feeding the heifers.

Kailee felt much more comfortable with the clean baby goats at a nearby goat dairy. (By the way, goat milk is great! The girls still haven't noticed my substitution now and then.)

Dan and I turned away to clean up after supper and in a quick moment Dylan was finishing Kailee's doughnut. He had packed his cheeks full and still couldn't seem to get enough. With one tooth, he now thinks he can eat anything!

Weekend Fun

My running crew - some times a little bundling is needed. Sharon and I were saying how we really cannot complain. We have no hills, little wind, and reasonable temperatures during the winter. Really no excuse not to run! (Sharon, Kristi, and I are training for a 1/2 marathon. So far we're on schedule. It's not always a joy with the double jogger, but we manage.)

Dylan LOVED swimming at the gym yesterday.

Friday night we went out with our friends, the Kings. The kids waited very patiently to be seated. They had more patience than the adults!

Emily McDowell, a vet student from Iowa State, visited for the last 3 weeks. She rode along with Dan and the other vets, many times being put to work. We enjoyed her company and she was great with our kids.

Anika received the game "Spot It" for Christmas from Grandpa and Grandma A. It is a fun game and Anika, one who has always loved matching things, is actually quite good at it. She looks a little glum in the picture, but I think it's her intense competitiveness that she's showing.

Dylan is now eating solid foods. Some days we can't get it in fast enough. He sits there with his mouth hanging open just hoping he gets one more bite. He continues to be such a great baby.
I came to the realization today that with our first baby, Kailee, I was so excited for each new stage and so proud of each "accomplishment." When Anika came along, she was "on track" with each stage, developing normally. Dylan has joined us and I hate to see him changing so quickly. I just want to hold on to my baby longer!

Alissa, our neighbor, goes to the public school and they are still on Christmas break. Three weeks off? Seriously! She joined us today for an adventure at the JCPenney studio then McDonalds.

Afternoon snack

Kailee needed to do a project for the 100th day of school. Even though it's not due for a few weeks yet Kailee eagerly accomplished the task as soon as she could. She was a little miffed that one of her friends turned hers in today and beat her! (So glad she doesn't procrastinate like Dan did in school!) She counted out 100 skittles in groups of 10 to decorate her rainbow.

Not to be outdone, Anika did one as well.

Kailee was so thrilled that it was finally Christmas Day. She climbed into Dylan's crib and was telling him how exciting this day was. Dylan responded with lots of smiles as if he comprehended everything she was saying.

We spent our afternoon with the Bothof family. We had such a wonderful time in their shop. They set up tables and had beautiful place settings for the dinner. Dylan tried to sleep for a little but really didn't want to miss out on all the fun.

Little Changes

Dylan decided he wanted to start moving this week. He does a little army crawling to get to where he wants to go. Here he thought Kailee's drawings looked fun.

Anika made a new friend this week. Unfortunately Kelsey was visiting her grandparents and returned home shortly after playing together.

Our "blustery winter weather" has been quite nice. This beautiful day caused a foggy morning the next day. Kailee's school had a late start because of it.

All our ornaments are at the eye level of a 3 and 5 yr. old. What good help I had though!

We went to the Visalia Parade Monday night with Emily and Sharon Fikkert. It was warmer than other years, but still SO long! We left because. . .

All the kids were falling asleep. (Even with the sirens and music blaring.)

Our evening: Kailee reading to Dan while he watches Glenn Beck, Anika feeding Dylan a bottle, and I am making dinner.

I love all the Kindergarten artwork. This is just one of MANY, but it's fun to see the changes that occur so quickly throughout the school year.
I helped out with a craft in Kailee's class this week. I give those K teachers a LOT of credit! What a busy little room, but oh so fun. What a privilege to have our child in a Christian school with such wonderful teachers.

We celebrated Christmas and Thanksgiving together this year. What fun! Kailee couldn't sleep the night before because she was so excited.

Wonderful week in Iowa

We had such a wonderful time with family and friends this Thanksgiving in Iowa. As always, it was difficult to say goodbye and fly back to CA.

We caught up with our great friends, Jonathan and Jennifer Bentz and their 2 kids. Many laughs, good talks, and not near enough time. It was so nice of them to come down to us over the weekend.

Grandma provided wonderful crafts for the girls to do. They had so much fun doing these with the cousins, aunts, grandpa and grandma.

Making popcorn balls - Anika and Caleb loved it. Kailee was not impressed getting her hands in butter to mold the balls. She was done with this activity quite soon.

Precious times!

Napa Valley, CA

Dan had a conference in Napa, CA the past 2 days. What a great place to visit during the fall! The colors were beautiful, the temperature was pleasant, the people were interesting, and the wine was okay too.
We took Dylan along, but Kailee and Anika stayed with Kevin and Sharon Fikkert. It sounds like they did many fun things. (Check out Sharon's link on our page.) What a wonderful friend to put up with our kids for a few days!

We visited the Franciscan Estate Winery and tasted a few of their specialties. We loved the Fountain Court 2009 white wine. Dylan liked this outdoor fountain better.

We went for a morning jog with Dylan then had breakfast at Peet's Coffee.

Dan's highlight was meeting this man, Jurgen Schutz, at his Dominari Winery. Wisdom abounded on all sorts of topics, all of them interesting to Dan. I think they could have talked for many more hours.

Earlier this week Dylan was making new friends at a princess birthday party for one of Anika's friends.

Dylan was so good as we carted him with us the whole time in Napa. He took many naps on my shoulder and ate when he had the opportunity. What a wonderful little guy!

After all our excursions he was very tired at night.

Imagine U Children's Museum here in Visalia had Halloween activities last Saturday. The girls loved all the crafts, cookies, and games.

Here's what keeps me busy - what a great stage in my life!

We "celebrated" my birthday this past Wednesday. What a wonderful husband I am blessed with!

Kailee was "star" of the week. She wanted me to bring brownies and chocolate milk for a special snack. I also read Duck Soup to the class, one of Kailee's favorite books.
